Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:I am an international expert with over 15 years’ experience that has spanned four continents and focused on biodiversity conservation and international policy particularly in the areas of marine and coastal environment, adaptation to climate change, disaster risk reduction and protected areas. I have undertaken roles in research, planning and policy development, worked on projects in over 50 countries across the globe. In addition to my scientific and technical knowledge, I have a strong experience in interacting with, informing and advising decision-makers and planners at national and local levels. My work often focused on the interface between science and policy. I worked with and led multidisciplinary teams to design initiatives assessing and quantifying the contribution of ecosystem services to resilient economic development; and shaping economic incentives for their sustainable management. I also have established and maintained several partnerships with other NGOs, United Nations agencies and donor agencies as well as the private sector. As the WCPA Vice Chair for North Africa, Middle East and West Asia, I worked with Commission members, governments, IUCN Regional Offices, National Committees and partners in the region to advance Aichi Target 11. Looking particularly to improve management effectiveness of protected areas (PAs), starting the Green List process in the region, improving capacity development, and advancing other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs).
