Changing the game in multi-partners cooperation to achieve lasting conservation impact at scale

Why attend
Challenging the business as usual conservation approach is needed for reverting the tide of biodiversity loss. What impact can we achieve through strategically aligned partnerships as compared to individual projects? This session will present the groundbreaking approaches being promoted by MAVA foundation in West Africa and the Mediterranean.
HideDescription
The global community is engaged in developing an ambitious post-2020 global biodiversity framework, that should contribute to achieving the SDGs. Under these premises, more innovative thinking is needed, particularly regarding the impact of conservation initiatives. MAVA has been funding individual conservation projects and partners for almost a quarter century. With a view to its phasing out in 2022 however, the foundation has entirely changed its funding approach: a few priority conservation issues have been identified in West Africa and the Mediterranean and specific multi-partners action plans implemented. Additionally, MAVA is investing in building up and leaving behind a strong conservation community around common goals. During this session, involved partners and leaders will present their experience and lessons learnt on opportunities, challenges of and prospects for implementing effective and adequate partnership in order to achieve meaningful and lasting conservation impact.
