Arias is the General Director of the Marine and Coastal Research Institute “José Benito Vives de Andreis” – INVEMAR, an entity under the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, supporting the formulation and implementation of the National Environmental Policy for the sustainable development of the Oceanic Spaces and Coastal and Insular Zones of Colombia - PNAOCI (2000). Currently member of the Executive Planning Group (EPG) – from UNESCO for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030.
