Why attend
This session aims at presenting some success stories about linking human activities and urban biodiversity development. A particular focus will be on participatory science, a powerful tool for engaging wide ranges of the civil society and various stakeholders to give more weight to biodiversity related issues in urban environments.
HideDescription
Today, over half the world’s population lives in cities. This share is expected to rise to 68% by 2050. Today, cities are the place where urban population comes in contact with biodiversity. Furthermore, well-being of citizens and sustainable living depend on sufficient amount of nature and biodiversity. Citizens can engage and positively contribute in many ways to the development and conservation of biodiversity in cities and at this session, we will present and discuss Citizen Science activities and challenges in urban biodiversity enhancement based on best-practice examples of Paris/France and Berlin/Germany.
