Mrs Iva OBRETENOVA
Policy Officer, European Commission
After obtaining two Master degrees, in European Public Affairs and in International Relations, I started my professional career at the General Secretariat of the European Parliament. I then joined the Secretariat of the Bern Convention at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, first as project officer working on the setting-up of the Emerald Network of Areas of Special Conservation Interest and on the development of ecological networks and later, as a Secretary of the Bern Convention, overseeing the implementation of the Treaty by Contracting Parties and managing its monitoring mechanism. In early 2020, I joined the European Commission and DG Environment. My current work is focussed on the implementation of the EU Habitats and Birds Directives, on the follow-up of some international agreements to which the European Union is a Party to, as well as on communication and awareness-raising activities on the Natura 2000 Network.
