Funded by the German Government, the Global Ocean Biodiversity Initiative (GOBI) is a partnership of organisations around the world engaged in marine scientific research and its application to conservation across local, national, regional and global scales. The session will highlight GOBI’s recent achievements targeted at informing specific requirements for the optimal application of management measures to promote the conservation of marine biodiversity. The format of the session is designed to showcase a handful of discrete yet interdependent projects undertaken by the GOBI consortium and how the different strands of work fit along the spectrum of conservation effort, from laboratory to legislature. The purpose of the session is to illustrate the interaction amongst scientific research, politics and conservation action, and how all aspects of the system are important for biodiversity and the sustainability of human progress. Invited speakers will present the outcomes of their work.
