Spatial action planning for conservation: 2030 and beyond

Why attend
Advance your knowledge of spatial conservation planning from world leading experts in the field, hear about ambitious global initiatives to support area-based conservation and demo a new collaborative spatial planning platform developed by The Nature Conservancy, Microsoft, and BIOPAMA to support strategic conservation decision-making with Marxan.
HideDescription
This session offers perspectives from global leaders in the field of spatial conservation planning as we embark on the next decade of global biodiversity conservation. Speakers include Hugh Possingham, Jamison Ervin, Steve Peedell, Piero Visconti and Jennifer McGowan. We will introduce a new and collaborative spatial planning platform based on the world’s leading systematic conservation planning software – Marxan. This new platform will improve government, private sector and local community capacity to prioritize actions for land, freshwater and marine systems. 'Marxan Cloud' can enable users to co-develop and communicate plans to stakeholders, support NBSAPs and enable democratic, repeatable and credible planning processes. We will offer a demo of this innovative platform and source feedback from participants on what our respective organizations can do to help advance evidence-based spatial planning for 2030 and beyond. Demos will be facilitated in Spanish, French, and English.
