Coastal communities and ecosystems will be increasingly exposed to more extreme weather events, rising temperatures and sea levels. These conditions will negatively impact infrastructure, water quality and natural resources such as fisheries, wildlife, and mangroves, further increasing ecological, economic and human vulnerability. The West Africa Biodiversity and Climate Change (WA BiCC) program, funded by USAID, and its local, national, and regional partners are identifying and promoting effective ecosystem-based adaptation strategies to address the threats while ensuring ecosystem sustainability and human well-being.
In this session, WA BiCC will share emerging lessons from its work in two coastal landscapes in West Africa to increase the resilience of coastal communities to climate change while addressing policy and capacity strengthening opportunities.
