This session first shortly presents the step-by-step ‘Ecosystem Service Opportunities’ (ESO) guidelines, which serve as a compass for practitioners towards recognizing the opportunities and towards selecting and planning suitable instruments which will lead to more sustainable practices. The methodology has been applied with local partners in Thailand, Peru, Micronesia, India, Jordan, Colombia, and Costa Rica and it has been continuously updated according to the lessons learned. The guidelines are available in online-format (www.es-opportunities.net) where users also find additional material such as templates, case studies, links, and guidance for workshop planning.
The session then offers interactive group work, where participants apply some of the modular tasks of the ESO methodology to their own conservation issues.
