Environmental law in the Pacific now and beyond 2020

Why attend
The session will seek to create an understanding of why there are not many environmental case laws in the Pacific and to provide strategic action objectives to assist States in the Pacific to address gaps in implementing and enforcing environmental laws.
HideDescription
National laws in the Pacific relating to the protection and conservation of the environment are fragmented and the past decade has seen Pacific Island countries move towards reviewing environmental related legislation to align them to multilateral environmental agreements or international environmental laws the States have committed to and ensure their effective enforcement. Some of these countries will showcase their experience in this session by presenting the most pressing issues that limit their Governments and Communities and NGO’s in effectively implementing these laws.
