In 2021, IUCN endorsed an update to the Red List of Threatened Species: the inclusion of new Green Status of Species metrics of recovery and conservation success. In this session, we will introduce participants to the new information provided by the Green Status, including new categories of species recovery. We will showcase a suite of species which have undergone formal Green Status assessments to demonstrate how the Green Status metrics add crucial information to complement the traditional extinction risk category. These examples will show not only that recovery is an important consideration alongside extinction risk, but also that conservation works- and the Green Status will be a new flagship tool to document the impact of conservation around the world.
