Dr Monika BOHM

Freshwater Conservation Coordinator, Indianapolis Zoo

I am the Freshwater Conservation Coordinator at the Global Center for Species Survival at Indianapolis Zoo, working with the Species Survival Commission to support the network's freshwater conservation activities. Prior to that, I was based at the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). There, my research focus shifted from terrestrial mammals (I studied badgers during my PhD at the University of York) to biodiversity indicators (such as the sampled approach to the Red List Index) and often overlooked species such as freshwater species and especially invertebrates. This was also where my path crossed with ZSL's Edge of Existence programme and where I was able to dabble in some podcast hosting (ZSL WildScience podcast). I am currently chairing both the IUCN SSC Butterfly Specialist Group and the IUCN SSC Terrestrial and Freshwater Invertebrate Red List Authority.
