Dr Simon KING
Chief Medical Officer, Doctor, Park Doctor, Wilderness Leadership School, St Lucia Medical Centre
I am a medical doctor; before that, a trails guide operating with the Wilderness Leadership School, an organization founded by the late Dr Ian Player. I have worked on three continents in general medicine, psychiatry and have a special interest in neuroscience. On returning to Africa I founded an emergency service based in protected area environments. I then founded the Park Doctor association through which I work with Protected Areas and ecotourism businesses. Most recently I co-founded the St Lucia Medical Centre to provide infrastructure needed to locate mainstream medical services in the iSimangaliso protected area, a world heritage and Ramsar site.
I have worked with patients, health systems, insurers, governments, ecotourism businesses and conservation organizations. I am an author, speaker, social entrepreneur and a clinician. My career is focused on the relationship between Health and Conservation.
